Zlatan Ibrahimovic is focused on helping Sweden qualify for the knockout stages at Euro 2016 and is hoping to continue "dominating wherever he goes" during the tournament in France.
Ibrahimovic will become the first man to score at four European Championships if he finds the net in this tournament, starting against the Republic of Ireland in Paris on Monday.
The 34-year-old is Sweden's captain and talisman and, despite the now customary boasts about his talent, is adamant progress in France is his primary concern.

Neymar ready for 'dream' Olympics

Neymar ready for 'dream' Olympics on home soil

Neymar admits representing Brazil at the Rio Olympics will be a "dream come true" as he looks to go one better than the silver medal he picked up at London 2012.

Neymar says representing Brazil on home soil at the 2016 Olympics will be a "dream come true", while

expressing excitement about the prospect of seeing sprint king Usain Bolt in action.

The Barcelona forward - who was not involved in Brazil's brief Copa America campaign in the United

States

- will be appearing at his second Games, having also played at London 2012.

Brazil had to settle for the silver medal four years ago, losing to Mexico in the final, but Neymar still has fond

memories of his time in England.

"In my mind I've pictured playing in the Games in my country, and it's going to be a dream come true for

me,"

he told Olympic.org.

"I've played in the Confederations Cup and the World Cup in Brazil, and the Olympic Games will complete

the set. I'm going to be so happy about it.

"London was so special. I had such an amazing time at my first Games and I'll remember it for the rest of my

life."

As well as playing for the hosts, Neymar is also excited about having the opportunity to be part of the whole

Olympic experience.

"I really can't wait to see Usain Bolt in action. I'm a big fan," he said.

"I also want to see Brazil in the volleyball and basketball and watch our swimmers and judokas, though what

I'm looking forward to most of all is soaking up the atmosphere in the Olympic Village.

"In London we weren't with the other athletes, and I think it's going to be very different this time.

"I really admire the Brazilian athletes, and it’s going to be fantastic to share this experience with them."

Three United stars set for Copa America

Manchester United will have three players involved in the Copa America this month – namely Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero for Argentina plus Antonio Valencia with Ecuador.
The main competition between the South American countries is the oldest international tournament in the world. In this centenary year, it's being held in the United States from 3 to 26 June, with 16 teams playing games in 10 different cities.

ARGENTINA

Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero are in Gerardo Martino's squad for a campaign which begins against Chile on Monday 6 June in Santa Clara, California – where the Reds beat Barcelona on the 2015 pre-season tour. Argentina faced the same opponents in last year’s Copa America final, a match they eventually lost on penalties. Lionel Messi and the rest of Martino's men will also face Panama and Bolivia in the group stage, in Chicago, Illinois on Friday 10 and in Seattle, Washington on Tuesday 14 June respectively.

Romero is expected to retain his place in goal, given he has been there for every single competitive match since 2011. The United goalkeeper has played all the games of the last two World Cups (2010 and 2014) and two Copas America (2011 and 2015). Rojo is also a main man in Martino’s squad as the coach’s first-choice left-back. He appeared to leave the pitch in pain during the FA Cup final at Wembley but fortunately does not seem to have suffered an injury.

After the disappointment of losing in both the 2014 World Cup and the 2015 Copa America finals, the
Albiceleste are seeking to go one better this year. They have not won any major tournament since 1993, when they conquered the Copa America in Ecuador after beating Mexico 2-1 in the final. They were also close to winning it in 2004 and 2007, but they were defeated by arch rivals Brazil on both occasions.

ECUADOR

Although Ecuador have never won the Copa America, they have proved themselves to be difficult tournament opponents. The Tricolor arrive in the US in good form as they are currently joint-leaders with Uruguay in the CONMEBOL Qualifying Round for the 2018 World Cup.
Antonio Valencia's national team will play their first match against Brazil – one of the favourites to win the cup – on Saturday 4 June. Following that, Ecuador will face Peru on Wednesday 8 in Glendale, Arizona and Haiti on Sunday 12 in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the venue for the 26 June final.

When playing with Ecuador, Valencia tends to take up a more advanced position on the right side of the pitch, compared to the right-back role that he's had at United recently. He is one of the most experienced players in Ecuador’s squad, having played for the senior team since 2005. Antonio missed last year’s Copa America due to injury, but this time he enters the big event in good shape after a positive end to the campaign with his club, including an assist for the winning goal in the FA Cup final.

Rooney excited by Mourinho arrival

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is excited by the appointment of Jose Mourinho and is looking forward to working with the new manager at the start of 2016/17.

Nigeria up six places in FIFA ranking

D’Tigress set for Argentina test

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team are set to face Argentina in France in a friendly match as they prepare for the Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Nantes, France.
The WOQT will hold between June 13 and 19 and D’Tigress, who are ranked 42nd in the world, will play in Group C against Belarus and South Korea. Nigeria will play Argentina on June 8 and 9 in France and the team is expected to depart the country for France before the match.
According to the team’s head coach, Scott Nnaji, the team is currently waiting for their visas from the French Embassy before proceeding to France for the tournament.

“The team is currently on ground and we are waiting for our visas to enable us leave in time for the friendly match we have against Argentina next week,” Nnaji told our correspondent on Friday.

As a part of their preparations for the WOQT, Nigeria, who were without Nnaji, played Turkey in the first of their friendly matches on May 27 and 28. They lost the two matches 68-56 and 67-56 but Nnaji said the match would not affect the players’ attitude to their next friendly against Argentina.

“There is still a competition for places in the team for the Olympic qualifiers. The first match against Turkey last week was not played by the full players. It was meant to measure our strength and weaknesses,” he said.

“The players who played that game are back in Nigeria now and we have 17 players here which will be cut down to 14 after the game against Argentina. Thereafter we will have our final squad of 12.

“Argentina are a good side but we will play with a good attitude and not just see it as a friendly match. It will help us to further identify our strengths and weaknesses we may not have observed from the first match.”

In contrast to Nigeria, Argentina, who are ranked 15th by FIBA, during the week named their final squad for the WOQT. The South Americans finished fourth at the 2016 South American Women’s Championship in May but are already in France to begin preparations for the qualifiers. They have also played Spain and Venezuela in friendly matches.

President of FIBA Africa Zone 3, Sam Ahmedu, believes that Argentina should not be as tough as Turkey for Nigeria.

He said, “Argentina aren’t as highly ranked as Turkey, so if rankings are anything to go by, they should not be as tough as the Turks to us. Anybody can beat the other team. It all boils down to preparation.

“Since the matches are to identify the weaknesses of the team ahead of the main tournament, the players and the coaches should learn from them and get a ticket for the Olympics.”
