Navy interrogates 12 NNPC pipeline bombing suspect

– Seven suspects were detained and interrogated about the recent bombing of the NNPC installations and other crimes in Delta region


 – Seven Cotonou boats, 490 metric tons of illegally refined diesel, a roll of cable, car battery and dynamites were recovered from the detainees The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) DELTA has reported a tremendous achievement of the Central Naval Command as twelve people were arrested on suspicion of criminal activities in Delta area, including the recent bombing of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) installations.

The questioning revealed that one of the arrestees participated in the killing of two soldiers in Batan community in May this year, one more person was quizzed for extortion. After the preliminary investigation by the navy the suspects who were detained last week in Batan community of Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta would be handed over for prosecution. Besides, seven Cotonou boats and 490 metric tons of illegally refined diesel, a roll of cable, car battery and dynamites were recovered from the suspects.

 The information was made availbale by Muhammed Garba, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the Central Naval Command, on Wednesday at the Warri Naval Base. Giving the details of the operations conducted by his command the FOC stressed that despite the activities of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) the Command would continue carrying out its statutory obligations of providing security in the territorial waterways.

“The Central Naval Command has made a lot of progress relating to pipeline vandalism, sea robbery and attacks on ships.

 The Command’s operation has resulted in the seizure of five vessels, a tug boat, five barges and 72 Cotonou boats and were consequently destroye. We will continue to protect lives and properties and also ensure safety in the maritime domains for economic activities to thrive,” Mr Garba said.

 Warning to criminals operating at the waterways

 “They knew that if they have been caught with those items on board, there will be no excuse for them and they quickly threw them overboard, my men got divers to recover them from the sea bed,” he added.
