Six killed as Niger Delta militants attack NNPC boat

– A boat belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has been attacked by militants

 – During the attack, six people were killed – The attack took place in Warri The army in a statement on Thursday, June 2, said four civilians, two soldiers were killed.

 “During the deliberate attack two soldiers were killed, one wounded, one soldier missing while four civilian staff attached to the house boat were shot dead,” the army said in a statement.

 The attack took place on Wednesday, June 1 in the Warri area of Delta state where militants have staged a series of attacks on oil pipelines in recent weeks.

 There were no claims as to what militant group orchestrated the attacks. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) DELTA has reported a tremendous achievement of the Central Naval Command as twelve people were arrested on suspicion of criminal activities in Delta area, including the recent bombing of NNPC installations.

 Seven of the suspects have already been interrogated, while five others are waiting their turn. The questioning revealed that one of the arrested participated in the killing of two soldiers in Batan community in

May this year, one more person was quizzed for extortion. After the preliminary investigation by the navy the suspects who were detained last week in Batan community of Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delt awould be handed over for prosecution. Besides, seven Cotonou boats and 490 metric tons of illegally refined diesel, a roll of cable, car battery and dynamites were recovered from the suspects.
